“Buiding Second Chances” Capital Campaign to remodel 12 Carroll Street

Programs That Will Use This Space

OpportunityWORKS provides re-entry job training and case management services
Second Chances Free Store training platform for Opportunity WORKS participants and free clothing and household goods to the community
Financial Education provides workshops, consultations, and coaching on basic money management principles to our shelter residents and the community at large
VITA Free Tax Preparation offers free tax preparation by IRS certified volunteers for those who meet income requirements

The Need

HSP’s Opportunity Program is facing challenges with how to serve our participants in the small spaces we have allotted for the program. Over the past almost eight years, this program has grown nearly 500%. We have valuable community partners who want to refer more people to our programs, and we would love to assist them in our new space.

Last year, OpportunityWORKS provided hands-on job training and case management to 124 participants in just 1,400 square feet which includes the Second Chances storefront at 23 W. Green St. Second Chances community free store served over 3,000 people in this space last year.

The Financial Education and VITA tax services combined to assist 1,000 people in just over 200 square feet of space and one shared board room at 10 Distillery Drive. Uniting hands-on job skills training, case management, and financial education at 12 Carroll Street will follow national best-practice models by providing integrated services under one roof.

Are there additional tax incentives for my gift?

YES! We have been granted Community Investment Tax Credits for personal or corporate donations over $500. Donors receive an additional 50% of their donation in tax credits (for example: If you donate $1,000, you will be able to write off $1,000 for your donation + $500 in additional tax credits for a total write off of $1,500)

These credits can be used over the next 5 years, so even if you don’t have a tax obligation this year, you can store them for future use.  The credits will be available for donations made after January 1, 2019, but you can reserve yours now by calling our Director of Marketing & Outreach at 410-386-6648 today!
