As a result, I took every chance that I had and gave back to the program, by helping other residents in the program. I had regained a drive to help others who were close at hand by cooking. I regained my passion for cooking, in which, I did any chance that was availed. Just giving a kind ear and listening. I also took the opportunity to do other things that would just brighten some people’s day.
Over time, during my stay, many opportunities were available to me to move forward in other directions. I knew that this program that HSP would present more opportunities than I could have brought to the table myself. At a certain point, I felt that I might be ready to move into permanent housing, but I only believed that was possible with the suggestions and advice given to me by my caseworker and those in a position that I trusted to guide me in the right direction.
I was introduced to the caseworker for HSP permanent housing. He and I had a meeting about me being accepted into his program. I am truly happy and content and feel more empowered in my life because of moving over into the permanent housing program with HSP from Safe Haven program. These programs have given me the opportunity to reconstruct my life in a more conducive environment and in a secure emotional state.
As a result of my involvement in the help that I received from these programs, it has strengthened my desires to continually give back to them in any way that I can. Also, I have returned to college to further my degree in counseling and have enjoyed continuing many of those things that bring fulfillment to my life. I can truly say that I have been blessed immensely because of these programs.”
